April sunset, view to the north

Wikipedia's description says that Clear Lake has the largest surface area of any freshwater lake entirely in California, and is the tenth largest by capacity. It is fed by streams as well as by underwater springs located in Soda Bay. Cache Creek is its sole outlet. "Clear Lake is believed to be one of the oldest lakes in North America, due to a geological fluke. The lake sits on a huge block of stone which slowly tilts in the northern direction at the same rate as the lake fills in withsediment, thus keeping the water at roughly the same depth."
