Ham Radio Antenna Pictures
Sunday, September 17, 2006, 07:51 PM - Ham Radio
I've had my HF Ham Radio station set up now for a couple months. The radios for HF, VHF and UHF (pictured below) are connected to antennas I have put on the roof of my apartment building. The Pictures are here. Basically, an 80 meter L-shaped dipole antennas has been stretched between 3 10-foot-tall steel corrugated masts. Each mast is attached to an angle-iron welded steel frame made to hold 8 (each) concrete blocks to hold it down in a storm without actually physically attaching it to the building. Pretty cool, huh?

The actual radio equipment includes a Kenwood TS-570d HF Transceiver connected to a 150 foot length of Times-Microwave LMR-400 Coax via an LDG AT-100 Pro Automatic Antenna Tuner. For VHF/UHF operation, there's an Icom dual-band rig connected to that colinear in the pictures.

Field Day!
Friday, June 23, 2006, 09:46 AM - Ham Radio, Walking
Every year on or about the last weekend of June, Ham Radio Operators all over the world operate around the clock from their backyards or mountaintops or anywhere else out of the way in a great big contest to see how many of each of us we can talk to!

This year's field day brings me out to Fenton Lake near Cuba, New Mexico with a bunch of guys I've never met. It'll be somewhere between Amazingly Fantastic and Deliverance, hopefully closer to the former. :o)

I'll be back among the contactable on Sunday afternoon.
If not, Stephanie KC6VIT should know how to find me.
