I find this word used to describe a number of different things. The one I am going to address today is how one believes society should be organized.
There are three reasons we who live on Earth don't all live in separate caves far away from eachother:
Since -like everyone else- my survival also depends on the usual stuff, I must work so someone pays me something enough for me to live. I could set up some fancy system in the world so that my survival is assured without me having to work but I have observed that those who do this often are bilked out of it by others who are more motivated. Also, there's a lovely self confidence that comes from daily activities which are connected to one's own health and wealth that I enjoy. Hense, I work.
There was a time in my life when I didn't work. I was too depressed. This lasted for a number of years. Fortunately, I was interested in computer programming so I could set up a life in which a very small amount of effort on my part secured me a comfortable lifestyle. Also, I had close supportive friends. Others are not so lucky. Each of us needs to know as children that we are safe and that someone will take care of us no matter if we raise a finger to work or not.
Many people got this message as a child but many did not. There are many people in the world who need to find someone to love who loves them enough to take care of them. Since my friends took care of me when I needed it, I have become one such person who is happy to love someone who needs to be taken care of.
Of course, each of us has strengthes and weeknesses. Hopefully, together we can hold eachother up in each the ways we all need.
It is only by each of us taking responsibility to take care of those we love that each of us can be as powerful as is our potential and the whole world can slowly heal it's wounds and we can get on with enlightened living.
