Version 6.6
May 2026
- Recent Jobs panel on the Files tab. The Files tab now keeps a list of every input folder you've used, the matching output folder, and any FTP destination. Pick a row to restore that whole job — folders, FTP server, password, captions, layout, and text — exactly as you left it. Use the Edit button to overwrite the selected row with your current settings, or Remove to drop it from the list.
- Auto-staged output folder for FTP-only jobs. If you choose an FTP destination but no output folder, MakeWebGallery checks that the input folder's volume has enough free space (source size plus a 25% safety margin) and then creates a sibling folder named "<input-folder-name> website" so generation and upload can both run. If the volume is too full, the app explains why and disables Generate and Upload until you fix it.
- Output format radio buttons. The Files tab's output-format picker is now a vertical radio group aligned with the Input Files radio buttons inside the same panel, with comfortable margins and no clipped labels.
- Sort by camera capture date when available. When you choose "Oldest first" or "Newest first" and every photo in the input folder has a valid EXIF capture date, MakeWebGallery now sorts by the time the camera actually took the picture instead of by the file's Finder creation date. A small annotation next to the Sort order label tells you which one is in effect — "by camera capture" or "by file creation" — and the help-mode explanation describes the rule in detail. Folders that mix EXIF and non-EXIF files keep falling back to Finder dates so the order stays consistent.
- Per-text-block colors and a Text-tab redesign. Each of the four text areas on the Text tab (page title, text on each page, navigation hint text, and bottom-of-page text) now has its own color swatch. Each color is honored by all three output formats — Strict HTML 3.2, iPhoto-style, and CSS/JavaScript. Hint text can also be aligned center, left, or right.
- FTP server settings polish. Unchecking "To FTP server" now hides the FTP host name shown next to the checkbox and clears the FTP column on the matching Recent Jobs row. The "Testing…" indicator in the FTP credentials sheet sits on its own line above the OK button so it never wraps or overlaps the button row.
- Updated default footer. The "Text at the bottom of each page" field now defaults to a short credit line that links back to the MakeWebGallery page so people who download a published gallery can find the source.
- Help-mode and user-guide updates. The Layout tab help text and online user guide both explain the new Recent Jobs panel, the EXIF-vs-Finder-date sorting rule, and the per-block text colors.
- AppleScript additions. Per-block text colors and the choice of thumbnail / large-image filename formats are now exposed to AppleScript alongside the existing scriptable settings.
Existing FTP credentials saved in your Keychain are still used. The first time MakeWebGallery 6.6 sees a folder you'd already chosen before, it adds it to the Recent Jobs list automatically so the workflow keeps going.
